I just bought CARTOON MODERN today!! (Feb. 6th, 2008) and I'm just *lovin'* it. This has to be the "white-hot" book of the moment for so many designers. It's putting together so many "puzzle pieces" together in my graphic arts education. I'm 45 years old, so the imagery in CARTOON MODERN linger dimly in my childhood memory... which is why, no doubt, they have such queer resonance when artists like SHAG, McCracken and Biskup invoke them today... I was able to locate the film version of John Sutherland's RHAPSODY OF STEEL, and I D/L'd it. The version I just D/L'd definitely shows signs of age... There is significant color fading, yellowing, and significant magenta-shift, which I suppose happens to all color films after a time... [My father is a chemist who told me that even today, there exists no truly colorfast color process for film! News to me!] This is why I'm loving the super-saturated stills in your book, Amid! Where'd you get those? And d'ya think anyone will ever digitally restore the movie RHAPSODY OF STEEL to its original color glory?
