PAUL BUNYAN (1958) would have been an amazing short if it had had a director like Ward Kimball who understood that Tom Oreb’s stylized designs demanded a similarly stylized approach to the animation. As it is, it’s not a horrible film, but it could have been so much more. Here are a few of Tom’s original designs.

Wow! First Mary Blair and now Tom Oreb! What a treat!!! Thanks also for posting the Worm short on Cartoon Brew. Boy, does that bring back memories! I think I’ll talk about it some more when I get my blog up. That’ll happen whenever I can find the software disc for my doggone Visioneer 8100 scanner. Honestly, if I get hit by a meteor tomorrow that’s almost OK because at least I’ll have the satisfaction of meeting the Lost Sock Angel who can fill me in on what happened to all the things I’ve mislayed over the years.
