Thanks for bringing his wonderful artist to wider attention.
I agree with all the comparisons to Bass and Sasek (and Rand and Graboff as the above commenter pointed out) and his influence, if only spiritual, on Uesugi and Fukuda; Have we discussed this before?
His art is also reminiscent of the early work of 'Miffy' creator Dick Bruna, whom by pure coincidence I have also blogged about:

Hopefully I'll be able to post another entry about Yanagihara-san very soon.

Interesting read. Came across it when I googled my last name. Funny thing, I'm also into the arts. (though more modern)

Thanks for posting this Amid! Ironically, I am involved in designing a corporate video project right now heavily influenced by the Uncle Torys print ads and commercials from Japan, but until I read this I had no idea how the character had originated or who the original designer was.

Very cool!

Hey-this stuff is teriffic! very fun!

I had previously only seen Ryohei's illustrations of ships, so it's nice to see more broad applications of his work. It sort of reminds you of Paul Rand and Abner Graboff too. And that commercial is fantastic! Very funny. It would be amazing to see his title sequences. Thanks for sharing the links.
